I thought I would connect to bring you up to date on our next Highlands East Plein Air Arts Festival. The Municipality was thrilled with the 2014 event and is contributing an even bigger budget to the event in 2015. Next year the event will take place from September 10 -13, 2015. I hope that you will once again take part. We will be doing some things a little differently.
Before I begin with details on the Festival, please let me begin by noting that the dates for the Rails End Gallery & Arts Centre plein air exhibition have been announced. The show will taking place from May 23 – June 27, 2015. I have recently spoken with Laurie Jones and she will very soon be in touch with those of you that were chosen for this exhibition. As I understand it, those selected will be asked to submit up to three paintings for the exhibition. Victoria and I will be attending the opening and look very much forward to seeing you then.
My plein air steering committee is now helping to raise additional funds for next year’s festival through sponsorships and other avenues, in addition to the funds that the municipality is donating to the event. We are also reaching out to many more plein air groups, local artists and other interested artists who might want to attend the festival. We are considering ideas that would make the festival a broader attraction to not only painters but to other artists interested in landscape and our beautiful Highlands East. The more the merrier is what we think, and we have great hopes that with every year the festival will grow and expand. There is also an advertising budget for the 2015 event and we will be doing much more to promote the festival.
With regards accommodations for next year’s event, I have been in touch with all of those listed on our website and several have indicated that they would be more than pleased to house groups from 15 to 25 persons at discounted group rates. Some of this information has now been posted on the website but I would suggest that you contact each of the following for information on group rates and book in as soon as possible. Please contact the Terrace Inn, Bark Lake, Tamarack Lodge and/or Magnificent Hill
Thanks again for your support this year and for helping me with the very challenging process of running an arts festival for the first time. I look forward to your continued support. Have a great holiday and best wishes for the New Year!
